    IP WatchDog2 Lite: PING restarter with SNMP

IP WatchDog2 Lite monitors the availability of one or two LAN devices and automatically restarts them in case of failure. Unresponsive device (router, IP camera, WiFi AP, etc.) is detected by unavailable Web interface or no reply to PING. In such a case, IP WatchDog2 can reset the device and also alert the operator by e-mail or text message (SMS).

            IP WatchDog2 periodically asks the monitored device to respond. For example, sends a PING request every minute. When there is no reply, the device can be restarted or power cycled, or the operator can be notified. Everything is fully automatic without human intervention.

            IP WatchDog2 Lite monitors the availability of up to 10 devices, and can reset one or two physical devices (two output channels). 
The monitoring is configurable to a great extent in IP WatchDog2 (method of monitoring, period, repeating, etc.). The second generation brings SNMP interface, ability to send text messages (SMS), and access via the online portal.

            Typical applications include monitoring the availability of network devices (router, switch, WiFi AP – IP address monitoring), and restarting them if necessary. IP WatchDog2 can be used to detect an unresponsive IP camera or another LAN device.

Typical applications:

    • RESET if the device stops responding (WiFi AP / IP camera not responding to ping - automatically restart)
    • Power cycling or resetting a device (via a web interface)
    • Activation of a back-up Internet connection if the primary link fails (network monitoring)

    • Restarting a router / switch 
      Every minute, a PING request is sent to the main and backup servers (ping monitor). If the connection fails, the power for a router / switch / WiFi AP (Access Point) is interrupted for a few seconds. 
    • Monitoring / restarting the PC in an information stand
      Monitors the function of a PC in an autonomous information kiosk consisting of a PC with a touchscreen.
      If the monitored PC does not send an “I'm alive” signal (ping heartbeat or request for a web page), IP WatchDog2 alerts the operator or performs a remote reset of the PC. 

    • Network watchdog – internet monitor 
      Logs Internet connection outages, switching to a backup link if necessary / monitors the connection to a network.
      • Activation of a back-up link.
      • Outages are signaled by a built-in audible horn and by closing an output relay.
      • Outages are logged to the internal memory.
      • SMS alert can be sent over a local GSM modem.
      • Can be used as a LAN system monitor.

Spare a power adapter

IP WatchDog2 Lite provides two physical channels to control the power to the connected device. Each channel features a NO/NC relay output as well as a powered PO/PF output. 
With the PO/PF output, the connection is simpler and needs one power adapter less.

Text message (SMS) alerts

With the HWg-Trigger application for Windows

The HWg-Trigger application can be started on any MS Windows PC. This application, based on “IF – THEN“ rules, checks for device alarms, including outages. Alarm status can be notified e.g. by sending a SMS to a specified number.


Sending SMS over the LAN through a central SMS-GW

Text message alerts to outages of a monitored device can be sent from the device monitor, IP WatchDog2 Lite, using a central SMS-GW. 
In the web interface of IP WatchDog2, configure the recipient's phone number and the IP address of your central “HWg-SMS-GW” gateway. 
No software is necessary, only a working LAN connection is needed. 

One “HWg-SMS-GW” gateway can be shared by several devices (e.g. Poseidon2 4002 in the picture).
